Kiwanis and Bayside
Sixty Years Together

In 1990, the Bayside Kiwanis Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary by publishing a Golden Jubilee Journal which consisted of facts and photographs compiled by the Club's members and friends.

This website was launched at the at the dawn of the 21st century, and in the course of marking that event and our own 60th anniversary, which coincided with it, the current members of the Club "rediscovered" that journal and its great value as a veritable "time capsule" of the history of Bayside, especially that of the 20th Century, most of which was spanned by the history of the Club itself.

We gained new appreciation of our Club's heritage and that of the Bayside community through the eyes of those who compiled the book, many of whom are now no longer with us.

We have undertaken to further preserve and share this heritage by updating the book through 2001 and reissuing it so as to make it available to the general public.  We plan to donate copies of our publication to all local public libraries and the libraries of all schools in Bayside and surrounding localities, and to make excerpts available electronically through this website.

The book as originally compiled is an absolutely charming year by year collection of newspaper clippings, reminiscences and insights into the activities of Baysiders of years gone by.  Even the ads placed among the pages by local businesses and residents who generously sponsored the publication provide, from a prospective of nearly 12 years later, a treasure trove of the bits and pieces of everyday life that reminds or teaches us of the way things were and grounds us in the Bayside of today.
